Hospitals in Atlanta

Atlanta has plenty to offer should you come into an unfortunate circumstance in which you need a hospital. There are various hospitals that have been operating for over 100 years. There are also plenty of free clinics, and branches, so that no matter where you are in the city, there is something nearby. We hope you don't need it, but if you do, you will be in good hands here.

Piedmont Hospital -

Since 1905 the Piedmont Hospital has been serving the Atlanta community. They work with families and individuals, using the latest and most efficient technology available. They also operate a non-profit clinic, as well as many branches throughout the city. The main hospital, however is in Buckhead.

Saint Joseph's -

Saint Joseph's is the oldest hospital in Atlanta. It was founded in 1880 by the Sisters of Mercy. They are one of the best healthcare centers in the region, not only the state. Saint Joseph's is particularly known for their acute-care facility. They have one of the most advanced, knowledgable staffs in the country and draw patients from much farther than just the Atlanta area due to their reputation. Saint Joseph's has also received numerous awards. They, as the Piedmont, also have free clinics associated with the main hospital.

Northside Hospital -

This group includes three hospitals in Atlanta, Cherokee and Forsyth, as well as 15 smaller facilities spread through the area. They have great specialists on cancer, women's care, maternity, radiology and surgery. It was founded in 1970 at the Atlanta campus and has been expanding ever since.

Emory Healthcare -

Emory University has a great system that does some amazing research as well as great care for patients. They have a clinic, as well as various hospitals, from general care to a specialist orthopedic and spinal hospital. They have been open since 1905, just like Piedmont Hospital. Check in to any of their 20 centers.

Great Restaurants in Atlanta

Atlanta is known for great Southern food, but there are plenty of other options as well. There are some amazing restaurants of all styles. Most of those we are highlighting here are great because they are both classy and fun. The atmospheres are almost as big a draw as the amazing food. Don't miss out on a little bite of the Southwest or the Mediterranean!

Pricci -

Pricci is one of Atlanta's best Italian restaurants. They have been winning awards left and right since they opened. It is a very modern kind of restaurant that combines traditional food and hip style. Whether it is a salad, some pizza, or a dessert you will leave satisfied. This is a great place for a night out with friends or a special someone. They are also incredibly welcoming, so despite being quite nice there is a more relaxed atmosphere.

Nava -

Nava is a little taste of the Southwest in the Southeast. Not only have they decorated to give of a New Mexico style-ambience, but the restaurant itself combines Latino, cowboy and native styles to create a delicious combination. It makes for a unique experience in this part of the world. You should also try a margarita while sitting in the fresh air out by the fountain. They don't serve lunch on the weekends, so pay attention to that.

Kyma -

For yet another different kind of cuisine, you could try out Kyma. It is an amazing Greek seafood spot. As soon as you walk in you'll be drawn to their fish counter, where you can see how fresh your food will be. You can eat some creative Greek inspired food with a glass of wine or ouzo in the open air, or in their very beautiful restaurant. There is plenty of cheer to go around to make this a great place to go with family.

Live Music Venues in Atlanta

Atlanta is a big city which means plenty of options for live music. From intimate to stadium, there are all kinds of shows and all genres of music, so no matter who you are you can find something. There are also plenty of small bars to check out local bands. Here are a few of the more well-known options in town.

Ferst Center for the Arts -

The Ferst Center is a small theater that brings in big acts to Georgia Tech. Along with the shows they also feature many art exhibits. They have great shows including Bill Cosby, Pilobolus, and Jake Shimabukuro. Whether you like modern dance, comedy, world music, or just about anything else, there is something for you.

Fox Theatre -

The Fox Theatre is an old movie theater that has been converted to a music venue. It is a part of Atlanta history. It seats roughly 5,000 people and the Atlanta Ballet is based here. Broadway Across America visits regularly. They even have film festivals and wonderful concerts such as Allison Krauss and Union Station.

Philips Arena -

The Atlanta Hawks' arena is also a big show venue. It will hold over 21,000 people! They draw some of the biggest stadium shows in the country. Just to give you an idea coming up they have Taylor Swift, Sugarland and Jay-Z & Kanye West. They sell over 500,000 concert tickets a year.

The Georgia Aquarium -

The Georgia Aquarium is the largest in the world! It has more than 100,000 animals in 8.5 million gallons of water. They house some very rare animals, including the only exhibition of whale sharks outside of Asia, various wales and even manta rays. Don't miss out on the opportunity to see things you won't see anywhere else in the US, and few places on the planet.

World of Coca-Cola -

Head over to the World of Coca-Cola exhibit to learn about the origins and history of Coke and to learn about the famous Coca-Cola ads, too! This museum has a host of interactive exhibits including a functioning bottling line. There are many films about coke's history as well as tastings.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Nat'l Historic Site -

For a different kind of experience take a trip to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Nat'l Historic Site. This is a free Historic Site encompassing the birthplace, church and grave of Martin Luther King, Jr. Visitors come here to commemorate the life of one of the great human right's activists in history. They are open 9-5 in the winter and 9-6 in the summer.

CNN Headquarters -

Atlanta is home to the world headquarters of CNN. Some of the most important studios in the news industry are in downtown Atlanta. You can take the "inside CNN Studio Tour" where you can watch archival footage, experience simulated newsrooms and view the actual newsroom in action! Check their website for times and prices.

Professional Sports in Atlanta

If you are spending some time you have to catch a game. Football is wildly popular in the South, and the Braves are also great. Enjoy a night out under the bright lights.

The Atlanta Braves – Turner Field

The Atlanta Braves play in the MLB, and have been very successful over the years. The Braves have won three World Series Titles, although each one was won in a different city. They have also won 17 National League Pennants. While in Atlanta, one of the greatest players to ever grace the game was a Brave – Hank Aaron. Try to catch a rivalry game against either the Mets or the Phillies!

The Atlanta Falcons – Georgia Dome

Since 1965, the Atlanta Falcons have played NFL football. The Falcons have won one NFC Championship, and went to the Super Bowl in 1999, but were beaten by the Denver Broncos. They just had former CB Deion Sanders inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Head coach Mike Smith currently leads the Falcons.

The Atlanta Hawks – Philips Arena

The Hawks play in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. They have won the Championship once, but not since the 50s. “Pistol” Pete Maravich started his NBA career with the Hawks. They had some trouble in the 10/11 season but made it to the playoffs and progressed through the first round. They are hoping to rebuild for next year.

The Atlanta Thrashers – Philips Arena

The Thrashers play in the NHL, and are a fairly young team. They only started playing in the league in the 1999/2000 season and haven’t won any major trophies, and have only made the playoffs once. Sadly, the Thrashers have struggled on and off the ice, as did their predecessors, the Flames. Rumor has it, they may be sold and relocated.

College Sports –

It is also worth your time to try to catch a grudge match between Georgia Tech and the nearby University of Georgia Bulldogs, especially in football.
